Knowledge and Inspiration

I have learned from and been inspired by a number of great people over the course of my life. Many have been traditional academic theorists such as John Dewey or educational psychologists like Abraham Malsow. However, I have also learned a great deal from political leaders such as John and Bobby Kennedy as well as athletic legends like John Wooden. I consider many of these people to be personal role models for me. You are bound to come across video, quotes and words of wisdom from these people as you travel this page. Although they are not all educators in a traditional sense, there is a great deal of knowledge and inspiration in their teachings. I invite you to take a look. Perhaps you will find something that inspires you as well.

Don't Give Up...Don't Ever Give Up

The video attached to this link is an inspirational speech given by former North Carolina State basketball coach Jim Valvano during the latter days of his fight against cancer. He received the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage on this night and spoke about the creation of the "V" Foundation for cancer research. Jim was a master storyteller (and motivator) who had an ability to draw people in with his words. I remember watching this live in my friend's dorm room while at UConn almost twenty years ago.

Although I never met the man, I have always felt close to him after listening to this speech in particular. His message about life is simple but enduring, and I think of it often.
